Brief
A young family inherited a 300 square meter single-family home in Vienna’s 18th district and converted it to Passive House standards in 2016. While previously the heat supply came from a fossil boiler, it is now provided by a combination of clean heat technologies being solar thermal and a heat pump with geothermal probes.
Technology
This solar thermal installation features 17m² of flat plate collectors installed on the southern façade of the house. The heat is generated from these 12 kWth solar collectors and two earth probes, both 100 meters deep, and collected in the 1,250m³ storage tank, ready for being distributed throughout the house. A ventilation system with heat recovery always ensures fresh air.
Thanks to the use of renewable heat technologies, the family home significantly reduced its greenhouse gas emissions, with 2 tonnes of CO2 being saved every year.
Financial Structure
The project was privately financed by the family.
