Brief:

A London university had the goal to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2025 for its West London student accommodation home to 3,000 people. Due to limited rooftop space, a high energy density solution was needed to supply hot water and electricity to the dorm residents. Furthermore, the university prioritised the possibility for students to engage with renewable energy generation on site to improve their student experience.

Technology:

This 139m2 system features 135 vacuum tube and 60 PVT collectors manufactured by Naked Energy, able to provide both sustainable heat and power to the students living on the West London campus. The solar collectors were installed on sloped roofs by Convert Energy in two different phases in 2019 and 2021. Thanks to the use of solar thermal technology, the campus’ previous reliance on natural gas was ended and 4,981 kilograms of carbon are saved every year.
