Solar Heat Europe collaborates with the pulp & paper industry on their decarbonisation journey

“The pulp and paper industry is the fourth largest industrial user of energy in Europe”, an impressive figure extracted from the Checklist for EU Climate and Energy Policies launched by our colleagues from Cepi during their annual conference in Brussels on 28 November.

We are pleased to have collaborated on this checklist, offering concrete examples of how solar thermal technology can contribute to decarbonising this crucial sector of the economy. Abstracts from the checklist, such as “Facilitate on-site renewable energy production, access on-site permitting, including fast-tracking of solar PV and solar thermal rooftops, and facilitate the installation of renewable energy and storage solutions,” directly align with the relevance of solar thermal deployment in this industry.

During the event, our member Newheat showcased the solar thermal installation that is up and running, providing renewable heat to the Condat Paper Mill in France.

This industry-to-industry collaboration is a great precedent, and we are very much looking forward to continuing our collaboration with experts from Cepi on this topic in the new year. Additionally, we aim to build similar partnerships with other sectors such as chemicals, food and beverage to name a few.
